The word list currently used in Voclist comes from World Class Learning's 4,000 Most Common English Words list.
Although the list is referred to as a 4,000-word list, the version used in Voclist contains 4,339 entries. Voclist helps learners explore, practise, and track their knowledge of common English vocabulary.
About word forms
The vocabulary list focuses primarily on headwords and selected word forms rather than including every possible inflection or derived form. For example, a list entry may include man without separately listing men, or be without listing every form of the verb, like am, was, were etc..
This means that a word may be missing from the list even when it belongs to a word family represented in it. Similarly, a word's part of speech in the dictionary does not necessarily describe every way it can be used in English.
Voclist's text coverage results should therefore be treated as estimates based on the list's contents, not as exact measurements of your overall English proficiency or your ability to understand a text.
